Now going into its 15th
year, the Alabama Planning Institute has become one of the leading training programs in
the nation for planning commissions, board of zoning adjustment members, and similar
officials.
The Institute is cosponsored by the Alabama Chapter of the American Planning
Association and the
Alabama League of
Municipalities. Each year the Institute schedules programs on a variety of topics of
interest to local officials and staff involved in planning- and zoning-related issues. The
Alabama Planning Institute sponsors two annual events, the Alabama Planning and Land Use
Law Update, and the Alabama Zoning Administrators’ Workshop. Other topics such as
Sign Regulations for Small and Mid-sized Communities, Creating More Attractive
Communities, and Affordable Housing Strategies are offered as well.
